How do I handle the blinds when players in
the blind "bust out"?
There are many "solutions" to handling blinds. Here is one
well written commentary on the subject.
1. In order to keep things as simple as possible, effective
10/01/2010 TPL will employ the "Simple Method" of determining the
blinds.
2. The player immediately to the dealer's left is the small
blind and the player to the immediate left of that player is the big
blind.
3. It doesn't matter who got knocked out or why.
4. In heads up play, the dealer button is on the small blind.
The small blind (dealer button) position acts first preflop. Then on
the flop and after, the big blind position acts first.
5. Players moved, by the TD or computer, into either of the
blinds or dealer positions sit out until the deal passes. They
do not take blinds nor do they deal.
Each Tavern is free to handle blinds any way they choose so long as
they are consistent. Having said that
here are some acceptable methods.
** Note: when it gets to heads up the dealer button is always on the
small blind and the dealer acts first, no matter which system you
use.
**Note: New players seated in the blinds wait for the blinds
to pass and do not deal but are dealt in after the blinds pass.
Simple method, least fair but since hold'em is a combination of luck and skill, like all other aspects of the game, the luck breaks even over time for all players.
1. The small blind is ALWAYS the player to the left of the
dealer and the big blind is next to that player. The dealer
button ALWAYS moves one position to the left of where it was.pects of the game, the luck breaks even over time for all players. have to have a small
and/of big blind. This might annoy some experienced players
but they are as likely to benfit from the rule as anyone else.
2. We recommend this method for new members who do not have
strong, experienced Tournament Directors. You can always
switch to more complicated systems later.
More complex solutions:
Dead button. If you use this
method you know how it works and it is ok. This method creates
situations where there is no small blind and short starting pots on
occassion.
Precise Method:
Each player has both a large and small blind each time around, no
matter what. Simply stated each player puts into the pot
exactly what he/she would have if no one had busted out.
Solutions:
Small Blind busts out. Simply freeze the deal and the
same dealer deals again. If the dealer also busts out whoever
is behind them deals, etc.
Big Blind busts out:
1st deal:
1st player to the left of the dealer would have been the big blind
so still must post a big blind. The second player is now
supposed to be the big blind so also posts a big blind. (2 big
blinds no small blind)
2nd deal: the dealer would have
been the small blind so must post a small blind "on the button".
Normal small and big blinds with an extra small blind "on the
button." (2 small and one big blind).
3rd deal: You are back to normal.
Both Blinds bust out:
Combine the two methods above. Freeze the dealer button as in
Small Blind busts out AND follow the
steps of
Big Blind busts out.
